“The Actuarial Foundation has awarded a two-year grant of more than $16,000 to Propel-Homestead, a tuition-free independent public school.
The foundation, through its Advancing Student Achievement mentoring program, awards grants to schools and groups planning to develop a mentoring program involving actuaries in the teaching of mathematics to children.
The actuaries’ profession is mathematics based.
Since December, students at Propel have been working with actuarial volunteers from Highmark.
